Homeowner Stabilization
There are several steps and programs that fall under homeowner stabilization that we provide at Operation Better Block. They are as follows:
Tangled Titles: a phrase used to describe problems related to legal ownership of real estate. We work with residents to go through to go through the process of gaining title of the home they live in and pay taxes for, but may not own.
Ongoing affordability and succession planning:
- Property Tax Assistance Programs (Act 50 and 77) – property tax breaks homeowner’s may be entitled to
- Appraisals and Assessment Appeals – helps prove the value of the often overly-assessed properties, which can then lead to tax breaks
- Hardship Payment Plans – tax payment plans for residents
- Side yard Program – vacant lots owned by the City residents can acquire if the lot is adjacent to their property
- Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh/Fresh Facades – home repairs free of cost if eligible
- Wills Project – drafted and executed wills from pro bono attorney’s
